Breakfast is Important!

March 2015

Breakfast is often described as the most important meal of the day- and it should be! There are many ways breakfast can help us throughout the day. Adults need to eat breakfast each day to perform their best, but kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brains need the fueling from food, and the morning time is crucial. When kids skip breakfast, they don't get what they need to be able to perform their best.

A successful day of learning needs help from a healthy breakfast. Having important nutrients such as protein, fiber, calcium and carbohydrates helps improve a child’s school performance. Improved school performance allows students to do better on tests. Research shows that students who eat breakfast have higher test scores than students who skip the morning meal.

Studies also show that kids who skip breakfast are tardy and absent from school more often than children who eat breakfast on a regular basis. Preparing a good breakfast can be as quick and easy as splashing some milk over cereal, making oatmeal or preparing a healthy smoothie.

Eating breakfast is beneficial in many ways not just for students but for adults too! It helps students improve their grades, but it can help students AND adults increase concentration and assist with maintaining a healthy weight. Getting a kick start with breakfast in the morning helps boost your metabolism and helps you to not overeat throughout the day.
